The Sadna operates a housing network in the "Gvaot" settlement in Gush Etzion. The housing network serves as a “Beit Lahaim”, a house for life[aa1] and is a framework for people with special needs who are able to integrate into community life and enjoy living in a diverse, vibrant and dynamic community.
We believe that everyone, regardless of their limitations, has the ability to contribute and be part of the community.
In the settlement of Gvaot located in a forest in the Judean hills, 45 families have chosen to form an integrated community whose vision is to live together with people with special needs who are at different levels of functioning.
Together with the Sadna, the Gvaot community operates has five apartments for girls and boys. The residents of the apartments are part of the community and, as such, take part in the various community activities and lifestyles of Gvaot.
The blended community is very personally oriented.
The synagogue is one of the examples of integrated living. It serves as a meeting place and the members of the apartments take an active part in its operation and in the prayers that take place there every day and on Shabbat and holidays.
Each resident has a host family to whom he is invited during the week for dinner and for a Shabbat morning meal.
Out of a desire to expand the model of the combined community and in order to provide a solution for more special needs individuals, the Sadna has begun running apartments in other communities in Gush Etzion such as Migdal Oz and Alon Shvut. The integration model that takes place in Gvaot well acclaimed and serves as a role model in the Gush Etzion community. Additional communities in Gush Etzion are interested in taking part in this venture and establishing a "Beit Lechaim" in their communities as well.
The residents take part in day-to-day activities, life skills, and maintain physical fitness and achieve and personal empowerment.
Through the housing network, the high-functioning residents receive ongoing support while they practice independent living skills, work in their jobs and can be prepared for living a married life.
In addition to their skill preparation, the residents enjoy a variety of recreational activities each afternoon.
The integration model that takes place in the hills has become a common denominator in the Gush Etzion community, and other communities in Gush Etzion are interested in taking part in this social activity and establishing a "Beit Lechaim" in their community.
